It is also a store from where users can purchase music and other interesting stuff like films, e-books, audio books, podcasts etc. iTunes 11.0.4 is the most recent version of iTunes, available for Mac OS X as well as Windows XP or later.

iTunes was originally called ‘SoundJam MP’ and was released by Casady and Greene ( a software publisher for Macintosh shareware products) in 1999. It was purchased by Apple in the year 2000 and was then renamed ‘iTunes’. Since then iTunes has been a very popular and successful application and its evolution from iTunes 1.0 (January 2001) to iTunes 11 (November 2012) shows that new features and improvement were added to iTunes by Apple on regular basis.

iTunes can be seen as an integration of three applications and services – iTunes Player, iTunes Store and iTunes in the iCloud.
