What is Xbox


Xbox is the first gaming console produced by Microsoft. Released in 2001, it marked the entrance of Microsoft into the gaming console market. The Xbox was the first console by any American company since 1996 when Atari Jaguar stopped its sales.

In the year 2002 Microsoft launched the Xbox live service which allowed the users to play the online games through there Xbox console using a broadband internet connection.

Although this service was a subscription based service but still came out as a winner in competition to its free counterparts – Sony’s PlayStation 2’s online service and Dreamcast’s online service. The main reasons behind its success were features like buddy list, good and fast servers and titles like Halo 2 which remained the most popular game for years.

Xbox belong to the sixth generation of gaming consoles and competed with consoles like Sony’s PlayStation 2 and Nintendo’s GameCube.
